Description

Caranx senegallus reaches 100 cm. Jack (Carangidae) with fusiform silver body with metallic blue-green back and pearly flanks, distinctive black spot at tip of operculum. Tropical East Atlantic distribution (Senegal, Mauritania, Guinea, Cape Verde to Angola). Lives in active schools from 0 to 100 m in coastal open water and around rocky pinnacles. Fast predator of small pelagics. Important commercial and artisanal fishery. Emblematic encounters of Cape Verde and West Africa coast dives.
