Description

Seriola rivoliana reaches 160 cm and 60 kg. Imposing silver-bronze pelagic amberjack with diffuse longitudinal golden band and oblique dark streak from eye to first dorsal (hence almaco). Lives in small schools from 5 to 250 m around pinnacles, wrecks and prey aggregations. Fast predator of fish and cephalopods. Circumtropical distribution, particularly iconic in Azores. Premium encounter in Macaronesian pelagic diving.
