Description

Caranx hippos reaches 124 cm and 32 kg. Large jack with amphi-Atlantic distribution (Caribbean and tropical East Atlantic). Laterally compressed high silver body with metallic blue-green back, distinctive concave forehead (dominant males with very bulging forehead), distinctive black spot on posterior edge of operculum. Lives in schools from 0 to 100 m in coastal open water. Fast voraciously curious ambush predator. Trophy sport fishery in Senegal and Florida (crevalle jack). Electric diving encounters.
