Cephalopholis miniata reaches 50 cm. Small grouper with bright red-orange body covered with small black-circled electric blue spots (uniformly distributed on body and fins), more orange head. Lives from 2 to 150 m on coral reefs and caves of entire Indo-Pacific (Red Sea to central Pacific). Ambush territorial predator, hunts mainly at dawn and dusk. Protogynous hermaphrodite. One of the most photogenic and common groupers, signature photo subject of Red Sea, Maldives and Indonesia dives.
