Description

Epinephelus striatus, the Nassau grouper, reaches 1.22 m and 25 kg. Oval cream body with complex markings: 5 dark vertical bars, a horizontal black stripe, prominent black spot on the caudal peduncle. Once the most common Caribbean grouper, now IUCN Endangered after targeted overfishing of its winter spawning aggregations. Protected in Belize, Bahamas, USA. Never spearfish.
