Description

Epinephelus costae reaches 1.4 m. Large grouper with a more slender and fusiform body than E. marginatus, blue-grey to brown with discreet golden horizontal lines. Unlike other mostly-solitary Mediterranean groupers, the golden grouper sometimes forms small tight schools under rocky overhangs and above wrecks. Protogynous hermaphrodite. From 10 to 200 m. Remarkable sightings in the Adriatic and in marine reserves.
