Description

Bodianus speciosus reaches 45 cm. Tropical East Atlantic wrasse (Senegal to Angola, Cape Verde) with red-orange body with yellow-green dorsal band and blue-purple head with characteristic blue lines. Juveniles with spectacular black-white-yellow patterns. Protogynous hermaphrodite. Lives from 10 to 150 m on deep rocky reefs. African cousin of numerous iconic Bodianus: B. scrofa Macaronesia (batch 10), B. rufus/pulchellus Caribbean (batch 13), B. diplotaenia Eastern Pacific (batch 16), B. diana Indo-Pacific (batch 11).
