Description

Bodianus diana reaches 25 cm. Hogfish with pink-red to orange body with large green-gold scales and 3-4 black spots on back, diagonal white lines on head, yellow tail. Spectacular juveniles: black body crossed with large white and yellow patches (mimicry with toxic flatworms). Lives from 6 to 50 m on coral and rocky reefs of Indo-Pacific. Predator of small invertebrates. Striking juvenile-adult change, target of mimicry specialist photographers.
