Description

Trisopterus esmarkii reaches 35 cm. Small gadid (Gadidae) Northeast temperate boreal Atlantic with fusiform silver body with yellow-green back and 3 characteristic dorsal fins of Trisopterus. Lives in huge schools from 50 to 300 m on sand and deep bottoms of Northeast Atlantic. Massive industrial fishery (Norway pout fishing for fishmeal, important forage resource for ecosystems). Cousin of T. luscus and T. minutus (batch 9 east-atlantic). Wide-angle photo subject for reflective schools in deep open water.
