Description

Pollachius pollachius reaches 130 cm and 18 kg. Gadid (Gadidae) Northeast temperate Atlantic with elongated yellow-green to olive-brown body with pale lateral line and protruding chin (lower jaw longer than upper, without barbel unlike classic gadids). Lives in schools from 10 to 200 m on rocky drop-offs, wrecks and coastal rocky areas of Brittany, UK, Norway. Opportunistic predator. Very popular sport and commercial fishery (appreciated flesh). Less well-known cousin of P. virens (saithe, batch 9). Iconic wide-angle photo subject of Northeast Atlantic wreck dives.
