Description

Pollachius virens reaches 1.3 m and 32 kg. Larger and darker than its southern cousin Pollachius pollachius, slender body dark green-grey to black with a characteristic straight white lateral line. Forms fast schools around wrecks and drop-offs from Brittany to Norway and Greenland. From 0 to 250 m. Predator of small pelagic fish. Pillar of the Nordic commercial fishery (Iceland, Norway, UK).
