Description

Thalassoma lunare reaches 25 cm. Wrasse with bright emerald green body with pink-purple head crossed with green lines, crescent-shaped yellow tail (hence moon). Blue pectoral fins. Mature males with brighter colors. Protogynous hermaphrodite. Lives from 1 to 20 m in loose schools on shallow coral reefs of entire Indo-Pacific (Red Sea to Polynesia). Very active and curious, approaches divers. Predator of small invertebrates. One of the most common and photogenic wrasses of reefs.
