Description

Diplodus sargus reaches 45 cm. Oval silver body with 8 to 9 dark vertical bands more marked in juveniles, black spot on the caudal peduncle. Forms schools on rocky bottoms from 0 to 50 m. Generalist omnivore. Highly sought in sport and commercial fisheries, populations under pressure in some areas. The sparid most often encountered by Mediterranean divers.
