Description

Chromis limbata reaches 15 cm. Damselfish endemic to Azores, Madeira, Canaries, Cape Verde. Olive-gray to green-brown body with paler belly and characteristic sulfur-yellow forked tail. Lives in dense schools from 5 to 50 m above rocky drop-offs. Demersal spawning with male guarding. Feeds on zooplankton in open water. Favorite photo subject of Macaronesian dives, Atlantic cousin of Mediterranean C. chromis. Spectacular large aggregations.
