Description

Lutjanus griseus reaches 89 cm. Grey-olive to coppery body, arched forehead, purple facial line in breeding livery. Extremely euryhaline: spans the full salinity range from fresh to marine, colonizing mangroves, estuaries, seagrass and deep reefs. Very wary nocturnal predator, hard to approach. Important in Caribbean commercial and sport fisheries.
