Description
Lutjanus bohar reaches 100 cm and 15 kg. Large snapper with red-brown to red-purple body with sometimes pale spots on back, massive head with large eyes. Often ciguatera-flagged. Lives from 4 to 180 m on coral reefs and waters of Indo-Pacific. Forms spectacular seasonal spawning aggregations, notably at Strait of Tiran (Red Sea) and Ras Mohamed (sometimes 5000+ individuals at peak), event prized by advanced divers. Opportunistic pack predator around wrecks.
