Gymnothorax unicolor reaches 120 cm. Moray with body uniformly brown-gray to olive-yellow, without contrasting patterns, hence unicolor name. Concolorous head, yellow eyes. Lives from 5 to 50 m on rocks, scree and caves. Distribution Macaronesia (Azores, Madeira, Canaries), western Mediterranean, African coasts. Rarer than M. helena. Canary and Madeiran diving offer good encounters. Nocturnal predator of crustaceans and small fish. Discreet during day, only head visible coming out of a crevice.
