Echidna nocturna reaches 100 cm. Eastern Pacific moray with thick yellow-green to olive-brown body covered with irregular brown spots and pale-yellow reticulations. Particular comb teeth and molar-like teeth (durophagous adapted to hard-shelled crustaceans and mollusks). Lives from 1 to 10 m in crevices and under shallow rocks from Gulf of California to Peru. Nocturnal as name indicates, active at dusk and night. Macro photo subject of Sea of Cortez dives, curious and generally approachable. Different from more slender Gymnothorax.
