Description

Chloroscombrus chrysurus reaches 65 cm. Small tropical Atlantic jack (Caribbean, tropical East Atlantic, Brazil) with silver fusiform body with distinctive convex (curved) belly and bright golden-yellow tail (hence chrysurus, golden tail). Lives in dense schools from 0 to 55 m in coastal open water. Juveniles often in mangroves. Important commercial fishery in West Africa and Gulf of Mexico. Common flesh. Wide-angle photo subject for reflective coastal schools.
