Description
Selene vomer reaches 48 cm. Extraordinary jack with very high and laterally extremely compressed body in shiny silver blade shape, characteristic concave head profile (hence lookdown name). Diffused dark vertical bands in juveniles. Lives in schools from 1 to 53 m on sand, muddy bottoms and open water of Caribbean and tropical western Atlantic. Predator of small fish and crustaceans. Remarkable wide-angle photo subject for graphic silhouette in reflective schools.
