Lives from 1 to 175 m on coral and rocky reefs. Devastating invasive in West Atlantic (Caribbean, Florida, eastern Mediterranean), actively fished. Opportunistic predator. Iconic dive photo subject but dangerous, spines very painful for unwary divers.
