Description

Holacanthus tricolor reaches 35 cm. Striking contrast between the vivid yellow head and front and the deep black body. Juveniles look very different: yellow with a black-ringed blue spot. Territorial on reefs from 3 to 92 m, feeds mainly on sponges. Endemic to the tropical western Atlantic (Caribbean, Brazil). A spectacular photo subject with easy-to-capture contrast.
