Description

Hippoglossoides platessoides reaches 80 cm. Flatfish (Pleuronectidae) North Atlantic (east and west) with right-eyed flat uniformly brown to red-brown body. Lives from 10 to 1000 m on deep sand and mud of North Atlantic (Norway, Iceland, Northwest Atlantic to Labrador Sea). Very important industrial commercial fishery in Canada (American plaice). Rare recreational diving wide-angle photo subject.
