Description

Amblyeleotris guttata reaches 12 cm. Indo-Pacific symbiotic goby (Gobiidae) with elongated cream-white body covered with regularly distributed small orange-red spots (hence guttata, drops). Lives commensally with a pistol shrimp (Alpheidae, often Alpheus djiboutensis) that digs the shared burrow while goby watches for predators. Iconic mutualistic symbiosis. Lives from 3 to 30 m on sands and rubble of central and western Indo-Pacific. Classic macro photo subject of Indonesia, Philippines muck dives.
