Description

Stegastes planifrons reaches 12 cm. Adult yellowish-grey to beige with a characteristic black spot on the caudal peduncle. Juvenile vivid yellow with three black spots: one on dorsal, one at pectoral base, one on caudal peduncle (hence threespot). Extremely territorial, aggressive guardian of an Acropora or Porites coral patch. Common on Caribbean reefs down to 20 m.
