Description

Solea solea reaches 70 cm. Flatfish with a very elongated and compressed oval body, brown mottled right side with a distinctive black spot on the right pectoral, white left side. Crescent-shaped displaced mouth. Nocturnal, spends the day buried in sand, emerges at night to hunt crustaceans and worms. Lives from 0 to 150 m in NE Atlantic (Norway to Senegal) and Mediterranean. Iconic species of French gastronomy (sole meunière).
