Description

Sebastes viviparus reaches 30 cm. Small rockfish (Sebastidae) Northeast Atlantic with stocky orange-brown to pink-red body with distinct marbling, long venomous dorsal spines. Smaller, more discreet and accessible than S. norvegicus and S. mentella. Lives from 10 to 300 m on rocky drop-offs of Norway, UK, Iceland, Brittany. Viviparous (hence viviparus) - live larva birth. Wide-angle photo subject of accessible boreal dives.
