Description

Sebastes oculatus reaches 50 cm. Rockfish (Sebastidae) temperate Southeast Atlantic (Argentina, Chile, Patagonia) with stocky pink-red body with distinctive large black eyes (hence oculatus). Lives from 10 to 250 m on temperate southern rocky drop-offs. Ovoviviparous. Local commercial fishery. Southern cousin of Nordic Sebastes. Rare wide-angle photo subject in east-atlantic context.
