Description

Acanthocardia tuberculata is a 5 to 7 cm bivalve, heart-shaped, with a thick shell bearing 20-22 radial ribs ornamented with tubercles. Buried in the first centimeters of sandy bottoms between 0 and 60 m. Plankton filter feeder. Edible, hand-raked in several Mediterranean countries. Fairly common on beach strandlines.
