Description

Abudefduf troschelii reaches 20 cm. Eastern Pacific cousin of Abudefduf saxatilis (Atlantic, batch 17). Silver-white body with 5 distinctive black vertical bands on flanks, yellow-gold back. Lives in active schools from 0 to 30 m on coastal rocky and coral reefs from Gulf of California to Peru. Opportunistic omnivore feeding on algae and plankton. Males guard demersal spawn (purple eggs). Very curious, follows divers. Accessible and common photo subject of Sea of Cortez dives.
