Description

Abudefduf luridus reaches 15 cm. Damselfish endemic to Macaronesia (Azores, Madeira, Canaries, Cape Verde) and Senegalese coasts. Gray-brown to olive-green body with variable bright blue reflections and dark-edged tail. Lives from 1 to 15 m on rocks and tidepools. Highly territorial during reproduction, males guarding demersal spawn stuck to rocks. Easy to observe snorkeling and shallow diving. Atlantic cousin of Indo-Pacific Abudefduf.
