Description
Tosanoides obama reaches 10 cm. Rare anthias (Serranidae), discovered 2009 at Galapagos, deep East Pacific. Bright orange-pink, yellow dorsal spot. Hyperbenthos 60-120 m, vertical cliffs. Very limited data (DD IUCN). Observed 1-2x in submersible video. Major research concern: little known ecology, reproduction, behavior. Inaccessible to recreational diving. Deep-sea research priority.
