Description

Sphyraena barracuda reaches 2 m. Slender silver fusiform body, prominent jaws armed with dagger-like teeth. Solitary and territorial, often seen hovering motionless in midwater, watching divers with a faintly unsettling curiosity. Rarely aggressive but attracted to shiny objects: remove rings and jewelry before diving. Hunts with explosive bursts of speed.
