Description

Isurus oxyrinchus reaches 4 m and 570 kg. World's fastest shark (70 km/h peak). Spindle-shaped metallic bright blue body above, white below, large black eyes, needle-like sharp teeth. Pelagic with elevated body temperature thanks to thermoregulatory circulatory system. Lives from 0 to 750 m in temperate and tropical oceans. Massive overfishing, listed EN in 2019. Rare and electric encounters in Azores, Madeira, Cape Verde on dedicated pelagic dives.
