Description

Dipturus oxyrinchus reaches 1.5 m. Large skate (Rajidae) Northeast Atlantic and western Mediterranean deep. Flat gray-brown to red-brown body with particularly elongated pointed snout (hence oxyrinchus). Lives from 90 to 900 m on deep sand and mud. Listed NT by IUCN following overfishing. Moderate commercial fishery. More discreet and deeper than D. batis. Rare wide-angle photo subject in technical diving.
