Description

Brosme brosme reaches 110 cm. Gadidae (Lotidae) Northeast and Northwest temperate boreal Atlantic with elongated yellow-brown to red-brown body with single very long dorsal fin extending along entire back (distinctive feature), single chin barbel. Lives from 20 to 1000 m on rocky drop-offs and wrecks of Norway, Iceland, Northwest Atlantic, UK. Listed NT by IUCN. Important commercial fishery. Wide-angle photo subject of Northeast Atlantic wreck dives. Only Brosme species.
