Description

Antennarius sanguineus reaches 13 cm. Small East Pacific tropical frogfish (Antennariidae) from Mexico to Peru with stocky globular body orange-red to blood-red (hence sanguineus) uniform or spotted, granular skin. Lives from 1 to 30 m on rocky and coral reefs. Motionless ambush predator. Smaller and more colorful than A. avalonis. Macro trophy dive photo subject of Sea of Cortez, Galapagos and Pacific-Mexico coast for its vivid color.
