Description

Acanthurus mata reaches 48 cm. Brown-gray surgeonfish with distinctive white vertical band behind head. Schooling species, large aggregations. Efficient algae feeder on filamentous species. Indo-Pacific tropical lagoons and outer slopes, 5-40 m depth. Regularly observed in groups. LC (IUCN).
