Description

Urticina felina reaches 15 cm diameter and 10 cm height. Stocky column often covered with adhering gravel. Oral disc radiating white, red, pink. Up to 160 banded tentacles, often pink-white. Lives from 0 to 100 m on exposed rocks from Norway to Portugal. Predator, captures small fish and crustaceans with stinging cnidocytes. Can fully retract. Classic photo subject of Atlantic coasts.
