Description

Cribrinopsis crassa reaches 30 cm across. Large massive anemone with a wide red-to-orange disc and short thick translucent reddish tentacles. Lives on rocky walls and in coralligenous crevices in the Mediterranean between 5 and 50 m. Sometimes hosts the shrimp Periclimenes sagittifer in protective symbiosis (shrimp cleans the anemone and takes shelter from predators). Moderate urticating sting.
