Description

Sepia orbignyana reaches 12 cm mantle. Small deep cuttlefish (Sepiidae) Mediterranean and temperate East Atlantic, smaller and deeper than S. officinalis. Flat oval body pale pink-purple with color change ability. Lives from 30 to 500 m on deep sand and mud of Mediterranean. Moderate commercial fishery. Rarer macro photo subject in recreational diving due to depth. Less well-known cousin of S. officinalis.
