Description

Sarda sarda reaches 90 cm and 12 kg. Pelagic Mediterranean and temperate Atlantic tuna with fusiform silver body on belly, blue-green back with 5 to 11 distinctive dark oblique bands from nape to belly. Lives in schools from 0 to 200 m in open water of Mediterranean, temperate and tropical Atlantic. Fast predator of small pelagics (sardines, anchovies). Important commercial and sport fishery. Seasonal migrations. Wide-angle photo subject of pelagic dives for spectacular hunts.
