Remarkable Euphylliidae hard coral with hyaline spherical white-green or brown-green vesicles inflated during day (hence bubble), forming clusters of translucent spheres. Fine tentacles come out at night for plankton capture. Lives from 3 to 35 m in caves, overhangs and sheltered reefs of Indo-Pacific. Listed NT. Bubbles maximize surface exposed to light for symbiotic zooxanthellae. Preferred shelter of Vir philippinensis shrimp, iconic macro subject.
