Description

Himerometra robustipinna reaches 20 cm. Feather crinoid with central black or brown calyx bearing 30-40 bright red to orange arms more robust than Oxycomanthus (hence robustipinna). Clear lateral pinnules. Lives from 2 to 40 m on gorgonians, branching corals and coral drop-offs of entire Indo-Pacific. Listed LC. Nocturnal suspensivore filter feeder, solidly clings to supports. Bright red color makes spectacular contrast. Often hosts Laomenes shrimp in crown. Iconic wide and macro photo subject of drop-offs.
