Description

Eunicella singularis forms whitish to grey branching colonies reaching 80 cm. Polyps contain symbiotic zooxanthellae providing part of its energy through photosynthesis. Iconic of Mediterranean drop-offs and coralligenous habitats between 15 and 70 m. Sensitive to marine heatwaves: mass mortality documented during the 1999, 2003 and 2022 events.
