Description

Cyerce nigricans reaches 4 cm. Small sacoglossan mollusk (Caliphyllidae) Indo-Pacific with uniform black body with extraordinary foliaceous cerata shaped like yellow-orange-white plumes edged black, undulating in spectacular dance (hence nigricans, black). Lives from 5 to 30 m on green algae of coral reefs of central Indo-Pacific. Sap-sucker. Legendary macro photo subject for its undulating plume-like cerata resembling a dance, among most photographed sacoglossans.
