Description

Chelon auratus reaches 59 cm. Slender silver body with a characteristic golden spot behind the gill cover, discreet grey longitudinal lines on the flanks. Forms schools in shallow water, often along beaches or in harbors. Detritivore. Distinguished from other mullets by the golden spot and a smaller mouth. Common along all Mediterranean coasts.
