Description

Bornella anguilla reaches 10 cm. Remarkable Indo-Pacific nudibranch (Bornellidae) with very elongated serpentine body with laterally aligned branched cerata, brown-orange to white-pink spotted coloration. Unique behavior: actively swims in open water with very distinctive S-shaped undulating movements (hence anguilla, like an eel), rare in mostly benthic nudibranchs. Lives from 5 to 30 m on coral reefs and sands of Indo-Pacific. Iconic photo and video subject for its spectacular swimming behavior.
