Description

Balaenoptera edeni reaches 15.5 m and 40 tons. Tropical rorqual identifiable by 3 longitudinal ridges on rostrum (unique among rorquals which have only one). Dark-gray back, white belly. Circumtropical distribution in warm to temperate waters, less migratory than other rorquals. Encounters in Azores, Cape Verde, South Africa (sardine run), Mexico. Sometimes very acrobatic, active swimming. Spectacular hunts on small pelagic schools with gannets. Listed LC.
