Description

Auxis rochei reaches 50 cm. Small Mediterranean and tropical Atlantic pelagic tuna with fusiform silver body on belly, blue-black back with distinctive dark wavy patterns on upper dorsal part between dorsal fins, sharp contrasts. Lives in dense schools from 0 to 200 m in coastal open water of Mediterranean and Atlantic tropics. Fast predator of small fish and squid. Important commercial fishery. Wide-angle photo subject for energetic schools.
